Self Reflection

Over the course of this semester, I learned new skills and mastered some old ones.

I found that I learned attributions for AP style pretty well. I also feel that I ended up getting the hang of how to write a pretty good lead.

I struggled with the interview writing style the most. I had a really hard time figuring out how to approach the assignment and how to write it based off the information I was given. This uncertainty lead to alot of mistakes in my writing.

I need to work mastering punctuation in my papers. I had several mistakes in different papers where I misused a comma or didn’t use one when I should have.

I did not know what AP style was prior to this class. I had an idea of the other types of writing but hadn’t previously used them. AP style is the one that was completely new to me.

Once this semester is over, I plan to continue to read the news more as well as continue writing daily. I typically write something small about each day. Prior to this class, I didn’t read the news much but i’ve learned how important reading is for writing.

I really enjoyed the press release style writing. I had never done this before, so it was new to me but I enjoyed combined photos and bullet points into a short organized press release.

I also think the hardest writing style to learn was the press release. This was my first experience writing one but once I got the full understanding, I really enjoyed it!

I used Purdue Online Writing Lab for most of my application of AP style in my papers. I would use this as a reference while writing to be sure I was using AP style correctly.

I think taking moments like these to self reflect on your writing can really improve your writing because you are able to look at your mistakes and use that to improve yourself in the future. Mistakes are what help you learn and grow, so reading over all of the small mistakes made in previous papers shows you your weak points and what needs to be worked on.
