How do I use barcoding with Tally

Tally has options to scan barcodes and fetch information. Barcodes help keep data accurate while making its entry faster. Barcodes, therefore, avoid manual errors that help in faster billing, stock taking, and verification.

Firstly there are different types of barcodes. Therefore, you will need the barcode font in place with the style definition. This barcode can help you fetch details on style, color, product code, tax, retail price, address or any other information. This information can be loaded into the string, integer and text values. Strings are used for stock number, product description, brand code, product code, etc., Integers are for quantity, tax rate, retail price whereas address, name can be loaded as text.

Now you can make the complete database of all your stock items and maintain a repository. The only drawback is that you are allowed to only read and not the print barcode.

However, you can talk to your Tally vendor (preferably a 5-star vendor, authorized for customizations), who can understand your business and supply the supporting files. Once enabled barcode printing is possible with standard printers and also Thermal printers.

The Tally partner will provide the necessary TDL which can be added to Products and Features and can be enabled for printing under Add-On features.

To print barcodes, you will now have to create the item with its alias, specify its purchase voucher, and after accepting it the barcode labels can be printed. You will also have options to print on particular labels of your choice.
