Impromptu Prose II

The practice of writing from single-word prompts.

The following is a new collection of writings that I’ve completed from my single-word prompt practice as originally introduced by the first installment of this series: Impromptu Prose.

Because we cannot measure
their intelligence — or
experience their consciousness —
in the same way as
we measure our own,
we say they are

un-intelligent,
un-conscious.

Yet, here works a mind
in rapturous flow —
immersed in the wisdom
shared by an organism
with no mind
of its own.

A body communes
with a mind
in language read
but unwritten.

Premonitions carried
through marrow
and veins
speak of
time
and impermanence.

Two sprigs grow
distant relations on a familial tree.
Both dressed in white, charcoal,
and green.
But their roots grow apart
pulling water from separate springs
the vibration in their grains
is all their own
each frequency unique.

There exists a sacred trade
amongst Nature and her Order —
a circular flow of energy
renewed, distributed
and shared.

Our judgement, interference,
molestation,
of this Order —
far more ancient than our own —
tells the story of
a student
who refuses to learn.
