9 Ways Jesus is Enough for You

He is because he is I AM.

“Jesus was a good man,” he said. “A great moral teacher. Like Budda.”

“He was God,” I replied. “God in skin.”

“He never said he was God,” he retorted.

“Well, the Jews thought he did, because that was the charge they used to crucify him. They also tried to stone him because of it. Check out John 8.”

Jesus used the same term Jehovah God used for himself in Exodus 3:14. He called himself the preexistent one. The I AM.

There are 9 times Jesus used this title in the Gospel of John.

I AM he. Jesus with the woman at the well. (John 4:26, ESV) (This is not as clear in English as in the original Greek.)

I AM the Bread of Life. Jesus at the feeding of the 5,000. (John 6:35, ESV)

I AM the Light of the World. Jesus with the woman in adultery. (John 8:12, ESV)

I AM. Jesus when disputing with the Pharisees. (John 8:58, ESV)

I AM the Door. Jesus in his teaching on the sheep. (John 10:7, ESV)

I AM the Good Shepherd. Jesus in his teaching on the sheep. (John 10:11, ESV)

I AM the Resurrection and the Life. Jesus at Lazarus’ tomb. (John 11:25, ESV)

I AM the Way the Truth and the Life. Jesus in conversation with the disciples. (John 14:6, ESV)

I AM the Vine. Jesus in his teaching on producing fruit. (John 15:5, ESV)

As Jesus is the I AM, he is Jehovah Jesus! He is the expression and illustration of all that God does for his people in meeting their needs. He is…
